France - January 1, 2002 (Special Edition) (Mrs. Potts' new dub + modified lines) - After being released in 1991 in Quebec, the French dub was modified for its release in France a year later : Clarence Le Prévost, Georges Aubert and Jean Amadou, the voices of Chip, Maurice and the Narrator, re-dubbed almost entirely their parts in 1992. Some lines of Belle, the Beast, Gaston, LeFou, Mrs. Potts, Lumiere, Cogsworth and the Featherduster were also recorded again, and the mixing, especially for the Beast, was done differently. Even a verse of "The Mob Song" - in which we can see Wardrobe leading the others to battle - was changed : originally sung by a mostly female choir in 1991, it's then a unisex choir in 1992 for the French release.
The first Quebec VHS kept that original 1991 version of the French dub.
In addition, several lines of Lumiere, Cogsworth, and especially Chip were re-recorded in 2002 - with Mrs. Potts' change of voice, some audio connection were necessary. Moreover, as many other international versions, Belle's screams during the wolf chase, originally dubbed by Bénédicte Lécroart, the French voice, were replaced by the original version.
Source : Les Grands Classiques / Dubbing comparison - Following Lucie Dolène's lawsuit against Disney for the copyrights of her voice in 1996, her parts were redubbed in 2002 for the Cinema and DVD releases.
- Clarence le Prévost was chosen for Chip's role when he was only 4 years-old. Because of his young age, he was helped by Claire Guyot (Ariel's voice) who made him repeat his lines one by one, him sitting on her knees.
